MJ: The drawing on Hiei's bandage is 'aiaigasa'--
'love love umbrella'. The only time in pre-war Japan that a man
and woman could walk together was when they were sharing an umbrella,
so a man and a woman under an umbrella became iconographic shorthand
for lovers. In schools now people will draw aiaigasa on walls
or blackboards somewhat in the spirit of 'John loves Mary', except
often it's the love-struck boy's way of telling the girl that
he likes her. Here it's Kurama's doodling. |
